IS 555 “Computational Thinking 2” - FSS 2020 (1st date)
1. You have 45 minutes for writing the exam excluding the additional 20 minutes for
downloading and uploading (10 minutes each).
2. Answer the questions inside a text processing program with the possibility to save
PDF files or by using a PDF converter software for saving your answers as PDF.
Use the provided solution template in ODF format.
3. Write your name and matriculation number on the first sheet of the solution file.
4. When finished, hand in a single PDF document with your answers only.
5. You do not have to sign your electronic exam. Just follow the procedure in the
exam Ilias for handing in your single PDF file.
6. All questions must be answered. There are no optional parts in this examina-
tion. Please verify that your set of exam sheets is complete by checking the page
numbers. There should be 6 pages. You can achieve a maximum of 45 points.
7. You may use all available aids for answering the exam. However, you assert that
you answer all questions on your own. The exams will go through plagiarism checks.
Any identified attempt to deceive will result in not passing the exam.

(a) (1 point) The Internet Protocol (IP) provides unreliable packet-based
communication between two hosts in the Internet. This means, that
if a packet fails to be transmitted, this packet is lost and will not be
resent. How can application programmers achieve a reliable commu-
nication?
(b) (4 points) Hierarchical routing is the procedure of arranging routers in
a hierarchical manner. Have a look at the figure below. On the left,
you can see a small sample network with 17 routers. On the right,
you can see the hierarchical routing table for router 1A.
Create the hierarchical routing table for router 2B. If two or more
routes have the same number of hops, randomly select one.
