How is crime represented in the right-of-centre media? What is problematic about such representations? Why do they matter and why do they occur?

Within my assignment I will analyse how crimes committed by women are represented in the right of centre media. Official statistics show that most crimes appear to be committed by males, whilst the media amplifies crimes committed by women as extraordinary. Some sociologists argue that statistics underestimate the amount of female as against male off...

Within my assignment I aim to critically reflect on the experiences I have undertook in my chosen placement in a primary school setting. Slavich and Zimbardo (2012), highlight how work experience can provide students with first-hand knowledge, which give students a richer, more meaningful understanding of experiences and quality of learning (Slavich and Zimbardo, 2012).

A critical report on issues relating to the role of digital technologies in the field of education.

The Cambridge Primary Review Report states that ‘children’s out of school learning is electronic and beyond the reach of either pa...

A sociological analysis of ideas and responses to environmental issues in the field of consumerism. (2500 words)

Within recent years, many advanced societies have gradually become what’s known as ‘consumer societies’, in which consumption has more acknowledgement and a direct role in the stimulation of economic growth. Similarly, authority figures such as scientists and politicians have become more sensitive towards the future of the environment, as some argue that the level and types o...

What factors might explain the high attainment of British Chinese pupils?

As a response to the poster presentation, the tutor advised that the incorporation of Butler’s (1997) notion of ‘performance’ and Youdell’s (2005) ‘performative habitus’ would be useful in explaining the high attainment of British Chinese pupils. Whilst both ‘performativity’ and ‘habitus’ were briefly acknowledged individually in the poster presentation, the correlation between the two was not.

To what extent does the media sensationalise negative stereotypes of ‘beauty’, in the context of female body image?

Throughout history, the idea of ‘beautiful’ women is profound in the emergence of Feminism as a marketing strategy, through the proliferation of social media, advertising and female style magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Grazia. This literature review explores the turbulent nature of the idealised female body in Western culture and a combination of theoretical perspect...
