ABS_300 Week 4 Discussion 2, Tele-Assessment Personality Assessment Prior to beginning work on this discussion, read Chapters 12 and 13 in the textbook. There are multiple instruments to measure personality (both objective and projective) that are reviewed in the textbook. For this discussion, assume the role of a human resources manager tasked with hiring several employees for a newly formed life insurance sales company. Your job is to interview and hire an accountant and a district manager who will be responsible for supervising 25 employees. Unfortunately, the company has limited financial resources, so you are only able to use one measure of personality as part of your interview process. In your discussion post, describe the personality measure you selected and thoroughly explain the rationale for your choice. Identify relevant reliability and validity information about the personality measure you selected and specify how the reliability and validity information supports the applicability of the instrument for each of the above positions. In your rationale be sure to describe the properties and applications of the personality test as they apply to your role in hiring these employees. Identify at least one methodological consideration concerning the reliability and validity of administering the measure you have chosen. In addition to the required reading, research a minimum of one peer-reviewed article from the Ashford University Library to support your choice of subtests. Refer to the list below to determine your assigned client. For this discussion I chose to interview for a district manager. The assessment given would be the Jenkins Activity Survey. People exhibit definite preferences in the way that they perceive or become aware of- and judge or arrive at conclusions about- people, events, situations, and ideas (Cohen, Swerdlik, & Sturman, 2013, c.12, p. 397, para.1). According to this type of assessment, there are two types of personalities, Type A and Type B, that will determine if the interviewee will be able to maintain a professional stance and live up to the demands of a fast paced, ever growing, economical based job setting. The Jenkins survey was developed in order to measure the Type A behavior pattern within an individual. Individuals displaying a Type A behavior pattern are characterized by extremes of competitiveness, striving for achievement and personal recognition, aggressiveness, hast, impatience, explosiveness and loudness in speech (Center for Psychological Studies, n.d., para.6). It is available for individuals age ranging from 25 to 65, and takes about 20 to 30 minutes to administer. It is self-reported and consists of multiple choice answered questionnaire. Reliability eststimates for the JAS Type A Scale are as follows: Correlation coefficients are reported to be .85, in which most reliability estimates range from .27 to .75 (Bishop, Hailey, & O”Rourke, 1989). This test also allows for a test-retest that improves the overall scoring for the test taker. In the fast paced world, we live and strive within, in order to be a general manager, one must show strength, knowledge, know-how, and be able to work within the public setting (between employees and consumer base). The individual must also be able to cope with stress and time-allotted deadlines. The JAS would be a great indicator in evaluating who would best suit the general manager position. Tele-Assessment- Week4D2-ABS300 Prior to beginning work on this discussion, view the video Betting on the Future, read the required articles by Luxton, Pruitt & Osenbach (2014) and Novotney (2011), and review the required websites. In addition, research a minimum of one peer-reviewed article from the Ashford University Library which reports research findings on the reliability or validity of mental health testing via telehealth. Do note that it is customary to include any of the following remote methods under the framework of “telehealth”: telephone, video conferencing, interactive websites, email, or online chat. For this discussion, you will take on the role of a mental health professional in private practice who is considering providing telehealth assessment services. You are researching the types of services you could provide in order to present your ideas to one of the world’s leading healthcare investors introduced in this week’s assigned video. In your initial post, begin with a paragraph briefly summarizing the types of mental health assessments which can be provided over the phone or through other remote methods such as video conferencing, interactive websites, email, or online chat. Analyze your peer-reviewed journal research article(s) and explain the types of testing and assessments that are best suited for telehealth delivery. Evaluate the ethical issues involved in providing psychological assessment and testing services via telehealth methods. Research typical costs for comparable in-person psychological assessment and testing services and report your findings to the class. Identify a menu of psychological assessment services you would like to offer and explain how your model would deliver cost-effective and competent assessment services in comparison to in-person assessment services. Distinguish any specific types of psychological testing that should not be administered remotely and explain your rationale. Tele-Assessment I am currently a mental health professional in private practice. At the moment, I am reviewing diverse ways in order to minimize cost and increase allotted hours to my patients. My office hours do not justify the significant help that some of my patients need. I recently came across some articles, websites, and videos linked to the upcoming usage of telehealth communication. I am rather intrigued to understand the ramifications of bettering the outreach to individual patients needs. According to a recent article, it acknowledged that there are several technological advancements available to clinicians who are engaged in the TMH practice (Luxton, Pruitt, & Osenbach, 2014). Over the phone and video chatting, internet, fax, and email are just a few of the available resources provided to clinicians. The issue that I am having with these types of available technological advancements is that there is less interaction in the face-to-face value that might be needed from patient to client and vice versa. Assessments can be administered over the internet or through email preference, however, the non-verbal communication might therefore be missed. Body language speaks volumes, especially for individuals who already have issues and insecurities about opening up to others. However, the use of telehealth can help consolidate my clinical time at the office to those in need of face-to-face openness and allow me to optimize my time over the phone or via video conferencing to those who are afraid to leave their house (agoraphobic). Alcañiz et al (2003) concluded that the VEPSY project is very reliable in the help with those who are agoraphobic. Virtual reality treatment for individuals helps to expose individuals to several virtual situations and helps therapeutically (Alcañiz et al, 2003). I think it would be great to incorporate telehealth, to a certain extent, within my practice. Further information would be appreciated. With the APA ethical codes of conduct in mind, it is important to note that the optimum help available to my clients would entail of expanding towards telehealth. Patients need the best care to help with their mental health issues and use of telehealth can provide extended services to several of my patients. Thank you for your time and consideration.
