Q1. Selected Context and Description of the Situation

For this portfolio, I have selected the developmental context. I recently observed a
situation where a six-year-old boy, whom I will call “Lebo” (pseudonym), was referred to
an educational psychologist because his teacher noticed delays in reading, writing, and
classroom participation. The psychologist used developmental and educational
assessments to identify whether Lebo had specific learning difficulties or developmental
delays that were affecting his academic performance. The assessment was conducted
in a child-friendly consulting room, and the goal was to gain insight into Lebo’s
cognitive, language, and emotional development so that the school and parents could
plan appropriate support.
