, Question 1:

1. Answers to Questions from Activity 1.2, 1.3 & 1.4:

Activity 1.2 (Page 6):

(Question 2): "What are the similarities and differences between conceptual and procedural
knowledge in Technology Education?"
Answer:
Similarities: Both conceptual and procedural knowledge are important constituents of
technological knowledge in Technology Education. They both enable a student to know
how to use and engage with technology.
Differences:
Conceptual knowledge is being familiar with the "what" – technology's systems, concepts,
and relations (e.g., familiarity with the theory of a hydraulic system).

Procedural knowledge is the "how" – technology's procedures, skills, and processes (e.g., design,
problem-solving, planning).
(Question 3): "Critique the role of algorithms in replacing human decision-making."
Answer:
The paper defines an algorithm as a set of mathematical rules or directions for resolving an issue.
A criticism would be to consider the pros and cons:
Algorithms
can perform mundane tasks automatically and give uniform results, which could make things
more efficient.
But over-reliance on algorithms could limit human imagination, thinking, and the ability
to react to complex situations that require nuanced judgment.
There are also ethical issues of algorithm bias and job displacement.
(Question 4): "Distinguish between heuristic and metacognition in Technology."
Answer:
Heuristic: A heuristic strategy encourages learning by doing and discovery. It emphasizes hands-
on activities and personal exploration in Technology Education.
Metacognition: Metacognition is "thinking about thinking." It
involves knowledge and awareness about one's own thinking, including the ability to check and
evaluate one's learning.

Activity 1.3 (Page 41): This activity is a connection. Since I am not permitted to view external
links, I will provide you with the context from the study guide and you can reply based
on what you find from the link.

(Question 1): This question will probably ask you to explain and define "drawing instruments"
based on the provided link. The study guide starts this exercise by stating that Engineering
Graphics and Design (EGD) exposes students to internationally accepted principles.
