Where is the heart located? Which body cavity? What are the membranes that surround it? -
The heart is located behind the rub cage on the left side, it is in the thoracic cavity and is
surrounded by the pericardium.

What are the functions of the heart? - Pumps blood throughout the body via the
circulatory system, supplying oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and removing carbon dioxide
and other wastes

Describe the pulmonary circuit - moves blood between the heart and the lungs

Describe the systemic circuit - carries blood away from your heart, delivers it to most of
your organs and tissues, and returns it to your heart again

List the flow of blood through the heart, locating the major blood vessels, chambers, and heart
valves - Blood enters the heart through two large veins, the inferior and superior vena
cava, emptying oxygen-poor blood from the body into the right atrium. As the atrium contracts,
blood flows from your right atrium into your right ventricle through the open tricuspid valve.

Endocardium - inner lining of the heart

Myocardium - muscular, middle layer of the heart

Epicardium - outer layer of the heart

Parietal pericardium - outer layer of the pericardium

Superior Vena Cava - A vein that is the second largest vein in the human body and returns
blood to the right atrium of the heart from the upper half of the body

ascending aorta - Branches off the left ventricle; carries oxygen rich blood to parts of the
body above the heart

Pulmonary Trunk - carries blood from right ventricle to pulmonary arteries

Right atrium (auricle) - right upper chamber of the heart

Right ventricle - pumps blood to the lungs

Left atrium (auricle) - left posterior side

, Left ventricle - pumps oxygenated blood to the body

Marginal artery - supplies the right border of the heart

Left coronary artery - one of two arteries from the aorta that nourish the heart; (runs
from left side of heart then divides into the circumflex and left anterior descending branches)

Circumflex artery - supplies the left atrium and the posterior walls of the left ventricle

Anterior Interventricular artery - supplies blood to the interventricular septum and
anterior walls of both ventricles

Great cardiac vein - runs alongside the anterior interventricular artery

Ligamentum arteriosum - between and connecting the proximal left pulmonary artery
and the undersurface of the junction of the aortic arch and descending aorta

Right Atrium (Posterior) -

Right ventricle (posterior) -

Left Atrium (Posterior) -

Pulmonary arteries - carry deoxygenated blood to the lungs

Pulmonary veins - Deliver oxygen rich blood from the lungs to the left atrium

Right coronary artery -

Posterior Interventricular artery - runs to the apex of the heart

Coronary Sinus - empties into right atrium

Middle Cardiac vein -

Inferior Vena Cava - A vein that is the largest vein in the human body and returns blood
to the right atrium of the heart from bodily parts below the diaphragm.

fossa ovale -

pectinate muscles - internal ridges of myocardium in right atrium and both auricles

Tricuspid valve (right AV valve) - made up of three cusps and lies between right atria and
ventricle

Bicuspid valve (left AV Valve) - between left atrium and left ventricle
