Economic stability is referred to as the capacity of individuals and families to meet
financial needs through sufficient income, stable employment, and financial resources. As a
social determinant, it has a direct influence on a person's ability to afford healthcare services,
education, nutritious food, and transportation. When individual are financial instable the may
delay or forgo necessary medical care, avoid preventive services and skip medications and
this results to poor health outcomes, example us through hypertension of diabetes which are
chronic conditions, which is worse for individuals who cannot afford routine care and this
results to higher rates of emergency room visits and hospitalizations, additionally, unstable
housing and food insecurity contributes to stress and poor mental health ad this compounds to
physical health risks.
The Healthy People 2030 objective that is related to economic stability is the SDOH-
01 that is the reduction of the portion of people living in poverty status (Burnett, 2022). The
objective is at its developmental stats, indicating that it is recognized as a priority, but it lacks
reliable baseline data or established tracking mechanisms, the objective have a target to all
individuals and families that live beyond the federal poverty line, with a primary focus on
children ethnic minorities and racial minorities among other vulnerable populations, poverty
primarily affects people of all ages, but the consequences are detrimental for children and this
leads to lifelong disparities in economic outcomes, health and education.
