EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS

Selection of Experimental Analysis
The chosen experimental analysis for this assignment is the brief functional analysis. A
brief functional analysis tests conditions including play, escape, tangible, attention, and alone.
Cooper et al. (2020) states the brief functional analysis consists of one or two sessions, each 5-10
minutes in length, that are conducted for each situation of behavior. The function of behavior
may be achieved by changing one of the conditions that produces challenging behaviors with a
condition that does not produce the challenging behavior, or by conducting a contingency
reversal. Brief functional analyses have the possibility to show correlations in fewer sessions
than the full functional analysis, as the full analysis includes more time being spent on assessing
the behavior, and gathering the necessary data (Chandler et al., 2014).
A brief functional analysis can produce a snapshot view into the target behavior of
property destruction, and how its antecedents and consequences work together within the
environment. The client is showing destructive behaviors including property destruction, and
aggressive behaviors including yelling and swearing, making the brief analysis more efficient, as
Travis may become unsafe to himself or others at any time during the sessions. These sessions
, are conducted in short intervals, which alternate between the control and intervention conditions.
Due to the short intervals in which these sessions will be taking place, it can be beneficial for the
client as conditions are quickly transitioned and they could gain reinforcement and avoid
displaying their challenging behaviors.
Benefits of the Selected Experimental Analysis
Benefit 1: Brief Functional Analysis can be conducted in less time than the traditional
functional analysis, and it requires less staff and financial constraints.
