What are at least two cognitive changes that occur during adolescence and how do these
changes impact relationships?
There are numerous cognitive changes that occur during adolescence age. Cognitive changes are
progressing throughout the age of adolescence, first their brain starts to change and understand
how one may think and act and how they can learn. The first thing that changes is how the
adolescent gains the ability to reason abstractly. The teenager moves to abstract thinkers who
can perceive something they have not encountered or seen. They may experience personal
allegory due to being capable of thinking more abstractly. The next think that adolescent develop
is increasing advanced reasoning skills, for an example how one may use rational thinking. This
is when they start to realize when to use their own new ideas or questions. These impact
relationships by having the ability to consider many point of views and compare or debate ideas.

Adolescence can be a time of intense growth or significant loss, what are some ways adults
can support positive behaviors at this age?
I believe the first way that adults can support positive behaviors at this age is by watching for
any type of warning sign. Meaning watching for anxiety or depression and being able to get
them the help that they may need to prevent any behavioral problems that may arise later in their
life. Another way is to strengthen your communication skills with your child. A parent child
relationship is extremely important to have and they need to have open communication. It is
important for your child to be protected and having this relationship will help you protect them.
Lastly, it is important to limit exposure to risky situations. Be in an environment that you want
your child to be and only expose them to things that will keep them out of trouble. But, it is
important for your child to learn these skills from you in order for them to control their actions
and feelings in tough situations and are able to think about it and resolve it.
