Dyspnea Right Ans - Shortness of breath (SOB)
Tachypnea Right Ans - Rapid respiratory rate
Bradypnea Right Ans - Low respiratory rate
Hyperventilation Right Ans - Rapid, deep breathing
Apnea Right Ans - Cessation of respiratory effort lasting more than 20
seconds (ie. breathing stops)
Costal angle Right Ans - Angle between the costal margins under the
xiphoid process
Diaphragmatic excursion Right Ans - Pleurae extended 3 cm below the
level of the lungs
Symmetric expansion Right Ans - Both sides of the lungs take off at the
same time and to the same extent
Adventitious breath sounds Right Ans - Sounds that are heard in addition
to the normal expected breath sounds (eg. crackles, rhonchi, or wheezes)
Crackles Right Ans - Discontinuous, short crackling, popping sound caused
by inhaled air colliding with trachea and bronchi secretions
Wheezes Right Ans - Musical squeaking sounds that sound polyphonic
(high-pitched wheeze) or monophonic (low-pitched wheeze) caused by
airflow obstruction
Stridor Right Ans - High-pitched inspiratory crowing sound (heard without
the stethoscope) caused by upper airway obstruction
Fremitus Right Ans - Palpable vibration when speaking
Orthopnea Right Ans - SOB when supine and improves when sitting or
standing
