02 Basics of Microscopy
Objective: To become familiar with the basic components of a light microscope, along
with how to load a sample for viewing
Procedure:
1. Review parts and components
2. Load sample slide onto microscope
3. Select magnification
4. Make necessary adjustments to optimize sample visualization
Notes
- In a microscope, you have a lens, an object to look at, and a light
source, so it is better to use than a magnifying glass
- Basic parts of a standard light
microscope
- Eye piece
- Oculars
- Separate and push them together to
fit your eyes
- Should see a single circle in the
viewfinder
- Arm/neck
- Thick curvature
- Grab the to move it
- Objectives
- Provide part of the magnification
- 4 different objectives
- Shortest objective is 4x (red)
magnification
- 10x is yellow - 40x (blue)
- 100x (white)
