Why should we disrupt current healthcare structures – at this moment cost of healthcare is
increasing so it will become less accessible in the future. There are many underlying reasons:
healthcare is not focused on keeping people healthy (organisation focus); mismatch between
provision of care and qualification of caregivers (allocation problem – increasing costs).
Relevance of healthcare in the context of organisation design:
Healthcare is an important societal value
(Organisation) Design challenge – providing healthcare in a proper way
We are involved as (future) employees/clients/stakeholders
Approach: Coming from the angle of disruptive innovation. How disruptive innovation can
make healthcare simpler and more affordable (accessible). How to make healthcare affordable?
Starting point: defining what disruptive innovation is – innovation that creates a new market
and value network and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network, displacing
established market leading organisations, offerings and alliances.
Disruptive innovation framework was developed in the context of industrial production.
