hazards, and what to do when someone is exposed.
Drowning - Answers- -Begins when water enters victims airway.
-Distressed to Active to Passive (possibly agonal gasps).
Distressed Swimmer - Answers- Able to keep themselves afloat, but not for very long.
Active Drowning - Answers- When they can't keep their airway about the water.
Passive Drowning: - Answers- -Submerged.
-Within 3 minutes, brain damage.
-Within 4-6 minutes, death.
Agonal Gasps - Answers- -Not breathing, very spontaneous.
-Irregular, quiet, un-labored.
Water Emergency: EAP - Answers- -Recognize someone is in need of help.
-Activate EAP
-Rescue Victim (according to facility plan).

Slide-in - Answers- Appropriate entry for spinal, shallow, and crowded.
Stride-In - Answers- Appropriate entry for ground level, deep water, not crowded.
Compact - Answers- Appropriate entry for elevated or deep water.
Reaching Assist - Answers- When the victim is close, and you are able to offer them the
tube and not enter the water.
Simple Assist - Answers- Pick them up and help them exit the water.
Active Victim Front Rescue - Answers- Extended arms with rescue tube, and push
rescue tube down and under their arms.
Active Victim Rear Rescue - Answers- Grab under arms, roll them over on top of tube
and you.
Passive Drowning Rear Rescue - Answers- Grab under arms, roll them over you on top
of tube and you (not appropriate for head/neck/spinal).
Multiple Victim Rescue - Answers- Rear rescue on of them, and the other will hold on.
Passive Submerged Victim, Shallow Water - Answers- Reach down, grab under arms,
roll victim over, position tube under victim's shoulders, remove from water with
backboard.
Passive Submerged Victim, Deep Water - Answers- Feet first surface dive, reach one
arm around victim, pull on tow line with other hand, when at surface pull the tube
between you and the victim.
