can manage the
adversary's perception by managing the indicators.
CALI - ANSWER-Capabilities, Activities, Limitations, and Intention
CIL - Critical Information List - ANSWER-The foundation document for OPSEC. Can
consist of: Capabilities: Troops, Training, Equipment,
Activities: Mission time, date, site.
Limitations / Vulnerabilities: Readiness rate
Intentions: Plans (OPLAN, SOP, TTP)
Command Guidance sets priorities
Section SME's participate in the OPSEC working group to assess what CALI are crucial
to those priorities.
CIL Characteristics - ANSWER-1. Approved by the CDR
2. CIL no larger than 10 items
3. Unclassified
4. Easy to Understand
5. Widest Dissemination
Commander's Role in the OPSEC Program - ANSWER-1. Integrate and issue orders for
staff implementation
2. Take administrative action
3. Ensure the coordination and integration with other security programs.
4. Ensure all official information released to the public to include world wide web
receives an OPSEC review prior to release
5. Incorporate OPSEC into contracts
6. Determine what will and will not be protected.
Contrast and Exposure - ANSWER-Contrast: Change in Procedure
Exposure: longer or more frequent visibility of an indicator = greater vulnerability.
Critical Information - ANSWER-Information important to the successful achievement of
U.S. objectives and missions, or which may be of use to an adversary of the United
States. The adversary needs specific facts about friendly capabilities, activities,
