, Claim: IMDb claims the average length of a feature film in recent years is at least 115 minutes.
Test the claim.
I do not believe this claim, I believe that the average film is greater than 115 mins.
1. Collect single list of quantitative data until you have a large enough sample.
Describe your sampling technique. If a different technique would have been
better, describe how this would have been done and why it would have been
better.
The way I am sampling the data is going to the iMDb website, then the “Most Popular
Movies” picking random numbers and picking the film that goes along with the number.
What I found:
randInt (1, 100, 15): 58, 56, 47, 23, 75, 24, 68, 31, 50, 19, 28, 4, 66, 91, 69
2. Display the data in an organized manner.
Title Length of Film (mins)
58: Death Wish 107
56: Ferdinand 108
47: Spider-Man: Homecoming 133
23: Love, Simon 110
75: The Miracle Season 101
24: Hostiles 134
68: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 136
31: Hot Summer Nights 120
50: Game Night 100
19: Thor: Ragnarok 130
28: Coco 105
4: Rampage 107
66: Wonder 113
91: 6 Balloons 74
69: Insidious: The Last Key 103
3. Calculate the mean and standard deviation. Describe what each value
means in the context of your problem.
Mean: 112.07
Standard Deviation: 16.47
The mean is the average of the data
The standard deviation is how spread out the numbers are
4. Find Q-levels, median, max & min. Describe what each means and a few
details about your data that can be determined from these values. Include why
you think the mean is different from the median.
