BPT1501 ASSIGNMENT 2 2024
DUE: 16 AUGUST 2024
Please read the below passage and respond the questions based on it.
Xiphico Secondary School is situated in a high-crime area. The grade 12 results
of the school are very low, and hence, the school is classified as dysfunctional. In
nearly every classroom, there are a handful of learners who simply refuse to do
the work. They’ll listen to the assignment and maybe even nod their heads, but
when the rubber hits the road, they don’t hand anything in—at best, they submit a
couple of sentences instead of the essay you asked for. In most instances,
teachers become so defensive that the blame is laid squarely on the learners.
They often say that the learners are unruly, disrespectful, and do not care about
their future.
Instead of playing the blame game, teachers must thoroughly investigate the root
cause of these learners’ refusal to do their work. Understanding the reasons and
factors that contribute to learners’ refusal to do their work can assist the teachers
in Xiphico Secondary School in enhancing the performance of their learners in
grade 12 examinations.
1. Does the above passage motivate you on your journey to becoming a
teacher?
Respond to the above question by using the following as your points of
reference:
a. Teachers’ responsibilities/accountability
b. Teachers’ knowledge
1. Indication of a Position Taken for Both (a) and (b)
In my journey toward becoming a teacher, the passage both motivates and
challenges me. The issues presented low learner performance, lack of motivation,
and the high-crime environment are daunting, but they reinforce my belief in the
transformative power of education. As a teacher,
