Key-terms > Fitness Assessment
o Test: A procedure for assessing level of fitness or skills
o Field test: Is used to assess ability that is performed away from the
laboratory and doesn’t require extensive training or expensive equipment.
o Lab test
o Measurement: The process of collecting test data.
o Evaluation: The process of analysing test results for the purpose making
decisions.
o Formative evaluation: Periodic re-evaluation based on midterm tests
o Summative evaluation: End evaluation based on the total process
o Pre-, Mid- & Post-test: A test administered before, during or after the training
period to assess progress and modify the program as needed to maximize
benefit.
o Norm-Referenced Standards: Compare performance of an individual against the
performance.
o Criterion Referenced Standards: Compare performance to the certain health
standards.
o Consensus: Agreement among a group of experts
o Sequence of tests: Order in which the test are administreded.
One reference is really important: Related to clients!
Reason of Testing
o Identify physical ability in need of improvement. Don’t use his/her goal, because
that can decrease the motivation. Also a scale can decrease motivation because
a scale explain no muscle mass of fat mass.
o Set goals
o Evaluate process
Gathering Baseline Data
There are many valid reasons for administrating assessments to clients. The data
collected provide:
o A baseline for future comparisons of improvement or rate of progress.
o Identification of current strength and weaknesses that may affect program
emphasis on specific components.
o Assistance in establishing appropriate intensities and volumes of exercise.
o Assistance in clarification of short- intermediate-, and long-term goals.
