Pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) refers to the specialized knowledge that teachers possess
about how to effectively teach a particular subject or content area. This concept was developed by
Shulman (1986) and has since been widely recognized as a central component of effective teaching.



The PCK diagram illustrates the interaction between content knowledge (CK), pedagogical
knowledge (PK), and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Content knowledge refers to a teacher's
understanding of the subject matter they are teaching, while pedagogical knowledge refers to their
knowledge of general teaching methods and strategies. PCK, however, is the intersection of these
two types of knowledge – it is the knowledge of how to teach specific content in ways that make it
accessible and understandable to students.
