Step 1: Set the Schene
My ecological footprint indicates that we would need 4.7 earths if everybody lived like me.
Step 2: Write a comment about your footprint
Part A:
Comment: According to the suggested calculator, “If everyone lived like you – We would need 4.7
earths” – This is ridiculous and I should adjust my ways immediately!
Part B:
This is a serious indication that I should personally adjust my lifestyle to ensure sustainability of the
earth so all can enjoy it. Not only is it important for me to treat others with respect but also to
ensure that I do my part in contributing to the sustainability of the planet we as humans live on.
We cannot change the way others think / do certain things, it all begins with oneself.
I see this information as a serious wake up call to self, as it indicates that I should be more
considerate to other individuals by no means regarding respect of human interaction, but by means
of doing my part to ensure all has the same joys earth is offering to humans. – My lifestyle should be
adjusted so that only 1 earth is required if everybody lived like me – and not 4.7 earths as stated
above.
According to my actions towards the environment;-
1. Do I really practice these values?
No, my actions indicates that I am not considerate towards the environment which would lead to
the detriment of the human race if “everybody lived like me”
2. Can I really claim that these are my virtues ?
No I can not claim that these are my virtues as I am not considerate towards the environment, even
though I was considerate towards individuals, if not considerate towards the environment it could
affect all individuals.
3. Is what I am say ing really what I do ?
Until now, I have acted as if the environment is a given, I have respected the animals and would
not act illegally, but being not considerate can be seen as an offence from a greenies
perspective, because they understand the effect it could have if the earth is not respected and if
resources is not utilised carefully and sparely.
