WATER RESOURCES
CHAPTER 1 : WATER IN THE WORLD:
UNIT 1 : Different forms of water in the world
Liquid has NO SHAPE and takes the shapes
that it is contained in.
Such as : DAMS, RIVERS, GLASS
Water freezes at 0oC & changes into ICE
Such as : HAIL, FROST & SNOW
Water turns into water vapour.
It’s LIGHT & DRY air.
Can not see water vapour.
PROCESS OF CHANGES IN WATER:
o
➔ WARM – Increase in temp (above 0 C) SOLID to LIQUID
➔ HEAT – Further increase in temp – lIQUID to GAS
➔ COOL – Drop in temp – GAS to LIQUID
➔ COLD - Further drop in temp – LIQUID to SOLID
WATER ON LAND:
Salt Water & Fresh Water ON EARTH Rainwater either: 1) Soaks into the soil OR 2) Flows over the land
71% water on earth SURFACE RUN OFF – water which flows on top of the land as little trickles.
GROUNDWATER – water that occurs under the ground in
CHANNEL RUN OFF – water that collects in streams and rivers.
saturated rocks & sand. INFILTRATES – the seeping or slow
RIVERS AND LAKES –
penetration of water into the soil and cracks in rocks under the
RIVERS - Some are wider than others, Most settlements were built

goods, watering farmers crops. Rivers flow into Dams which are man
made.
