Variables of Interest●The research question is: “What is the relationship between patients without health coverage who smoke regularly and those who have been told they have asthma?”
●Based on the research question, the variables of interest to address it are HLTHPLN1 (have health coverage), ASTHMA3 (told had asthma), and SMOKDAY2 (frequency of days now smoking).
●The variables are relevant to the research questions because the question wants to focus on who doesn’t have health coverage, is smoking regularly, and has been told to have asthma.
oHLTHPLN1 represents participants' health coverage status. Its values are 1, 2, 7, and 9, which mean Yes, No, Don’t know or not sure, and Refused, respectively.
oASTHMA3 shows whether the participants were told to have asthma. It also gets 1, 2, 7, and 9 as its values, meaning Yes, No, Don’t know or not sure, and Refused, respectively.
