MHRM 6645 WEEK 2 ASSIGNMENT SELECTING YOUR ORGANIZATION WALDEN UNIVERSITY Succession planning is an important part of developing and retaining human capital so that HR professionals can become the perfect succession plan leaders. With this in mind HR needs to have a succession plan in order for the board of directors HR professionals and the CEO not to be compromised in the event of an a tragedy such as death retirement or a CEO stepping down. When a cooperation is put in a situation where a new CEO is needed it is a good idea to have a succession plan in place. This way it will make the take over easier and with less hassle. It will also keep the organization moving in the right direction even when changes are made. The Organization I Have Chosen For this project I have chosen Target (TGT), Target is the second largest retail store in the United States. Target was founded in 1902 in Minneapolis Minnesota where its head quarters are located. Selling to its customers from catalogs. Target opened its first store in 1962 in Roseville Minnesota when they first opened they started out as a small retailer, selling clothes electronics and had a pharmacy. Today it has over 1,792 stores and 38 distribution centers throughout the United States. With over 341,000 team members world-wide, with its online store guests can purchase products to have it sent to their home to the store or have it so they can pick it up the same day at the store. Today the stores have expanded they now have grocery items and household items. Super Targets have a meat department a bakery and a deli. Just recently Target ahs shut down all 124 stores in Canada due to not making enough profit.
