Hello everyone. I am Chaney Kevin and I welcome all of you to my presentation on the importance of nursing-sensitive quality indicators. The National Database of Nursing Quali ty Indicators (NDNQI) is a quality measurement program that compiles data on hospital unit-le vel performances to enhance the evaluation of nursing care. In 1998, American Nurse Association (ANA) established NDNQI to meet the need of evaluating nursing’s impact on healthca re (Lockhart 2018). This database uses process, structure, and outcome indicators to evaluate nursing care and provide quality care.

The Nursing-Sensitive Quality Indicators exist in three categories, which are structure, process, and outcome. Examples of structural indicators are nurse turnover, nurse staff, their skills, and education/certification while pr ocess indicators examples include measurement of patient assessment and nurse job satisfa ction. In addition, examples of outcome indicators are pressure ulcers and patient fall with injury .

In this assessment, I choose to address outcome indicators. These indicators measure the program’s achievement of changes, which are either short-term, intermediate, or long-term . Pressure ulcers are the most prevalent type of outcome indicator in the United States . Pressure ulcers, also known as a pressure sores are injuries on the skin or underlying tissue primarily due to prolonged pressure or friction.
