TASK THREE
There are many different reasons for why the public services have to provide equality of
service to all the citizens. The public services have loads of responsibilities to uphold. One of
their responsibilities is to ensure all the citizens from either groups or individuals, receive
equal service.
STATUTORY REQUIREMENTS
In all public services there are statutory requirements they must follow. The public services
must follow the UK legislations about trying to increase and promote diversity along with
protecting all the citizens in the different communities. The four main laws that do these are
the human rights act 1998, equality act 2010, freedom of information 2000 and the data
protection act 1998. All of these contribute to protecting and encouraging diversity. The
public services duty is to provide that all the people from the community no matter who the
individual is or what type of group they are. The legations that the UK put into place,
endures that this happens. The human rights act 1998 and the equality act 2010 helps with
this because this act is making sure that everyone is treated equality and is treated with
fairness. These two acts acknowledge that people will live their lives different and believe in
different things etc. This protects the individuals who are different, from being treated
unfairly and being discriminated but are ensuring that everyone feels safe and feels that
they have the same opportunities to individuals around them. The data protecting act 1998
and freedom of information also plays a big part when promoting diversity and equality. The
data protection act will protect people’s information about themselves and their lives. This
ensures that the information isn’t miss used by anyone to abuse or harass individuals. The
freedom of information allows people to access information about communities such as the
doctors about medication so they don’t get discriminated for who they are and not get given
the drugs they need.
RECOGNISING THE NEEDS OF CITIZENS AS INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS
All the public services have to put many “support mechanisms”. The reason for why the
public services do theses is to ensure that all the groups and individuals have equal access in
the services and accessibility. The important reason for why the services need to realise that
the groups and individuals will be different to each other. The services need to make sure
everyone is getting the same access so no one is discriminated. The services will provide
their websites to have an option to change the language along with their leaflets. This is
important because its allowing everyone to be able to read the information that the services
have put out. The public services will have specialist training, measures and officers to deal
with issues that might occur. This is due to them tackling any problems about people’s
religion, disability and culture. This is make the services effective as they know how to
overcome them problems. There are also measures to deal with reporting of hate crime or
even homophobic. The public services want to have a diverse workforce. As the service drive
to ensure that everyone gets equal rights and diversity. The services will also have specialist
officers on duty.
