1. Why Control Assessment Measures?
Assessment measures may tap into very personal information that may cause
psychological trauma.
Feedback on the assessments need to be given in an ethical manner.
Results can be misused.
By controlling assessment usage:
Administered and interpreted by a trained and competent assessment
practitioner.
Outcomes of the assessment is conveyed in the correct manner.
Purchasing measures are restricted to registered persons only and
securely stored.
Prevents the general public from becoming familiar with the
assessments.
2. Fair and Ethical Assessment Practises
Takes into account the needs of those in the assessment process.
Ensure that the assessment conducted closely matches the purpose of
results.
Take into account the larger social, political and cultural context in which the
assessment is conducted.
Assessor must have adequate knowledge on assessments, testing and
psychometrics.
Be familiar with the ethical code used to administer and deal with people.
Have sufficient knowledge on the tool being used.
Knowledge about the factors that may influence the process.
Interpersonal skills in establishing rapport and giving feedback in an
appropriate manner.
Have oral and written communication skills to ensure correct administration
and meaningful reports.
3. Professional Practices to Follow
Inform test taker about their rights and the use of their results.
Gain consent to administer the assessments and use results for desired
purpose. If a child is being assessed, obtain consent from parent or legal
guardian.
Treat all test takers in a fair manner
Be prepared for the assessment session.
