Subject: Understanding the micro and macro functions of law
__________________________________________________________________________________
(Insert name receiver),
What is the difference between the functions of micro and macro law? How can we use these
functions with the relevant facts in this case? These questions will be briefly answered in this
memorandum.
The macro functions of law cover the:
Maintaining Order.
-Public Order.
-Political Order.
-Social Order.
-Economic Order.
-International Order.
-Moral Order.
-Resolution of Social Problems.
-Regulation of human relationships.
-Educative or ideological order.
The micro functions of law cover the:
Specific Functions.
-Defining Limits of Acceptable Behaviour.
-Defining consequences of certain forms of behaviour.
-Defining processes for the transaction of business and other activities.
-Creating regulatory frameworks.
-Giving authority to agent of the state.
-Preventing abuse of power by officials.
-Prescribing legal procedures.
The difference between those two is that:
Macro law functions focuses more on the general role of the law in running and ordering society. For
example, it focuses more on the social problems, processes and structure and micro law functions
focuses more on the specific ways in which the macro functions are realized, and it focuses on the
individuals itself and their interactions.1
