Investigate a simulated crime scene using forensic procedures

Forensic method that has been used during crime scene and why each method was performed:

Search patterns: A zone quadrant was used in the crime scene as the crime scene was situated in a
house in a front bedroom. A zone quadrant was used because it is the most effective in houses.
Search patterns can disclose whether a crime is part of a series performed by the same culprit or give
light on a specific component or sequence of events at a crime scene. They can also be incredibly
useful in indicating where to look for evidence or additional evidence of a particular sort. Search
patterns are used in crime scene investigation to provide organisation and a systematic structure to
ensure that no physical evidence is overlooked. If no search tactics were used, there is a risk of
missing or overlooking evidence, which could jeopardise the investigation's credibility. If no search
tactics were used, significant evidence may have been missed or overlooked. Search patterns not
only protect evidence by eliminating contamination and disruption, but they also assist investigators
in avoiding the loss of vital evidence. It is critical to conduct a thorough and complete search of a
crime scene by employing search patterns that provide information about the sequence of events
and movements of people inside the crime scene.

Restriction of access: Limited number of authorised personnel entered the crime scene. A cordon log
was used to record the authorised personnel who entered the crime scene this was in form of a table
where personnels must put their name/rank or title, reason for entry, time of arrival and time of
departure. There was restricted access in the crime scene where one or two authorised personnel
was allowed to enter to prevent any contamination in the crime scene. The crime scene was secured
before assessing the crime scene to prevent unauthorised to enter the crime scene this is done so
that the evidence will not be tampered, destroyed, or lost. Before assessing the crime, looking for
signs for life was crucial as they could be the potential witness of the incident which could help the
authorised members to ask questions what happened and who is the perpetrator.

Observing and recording the scene: The crime scene was properly observed to see where the point
of entry occurred. A walkthrough was performed by the authorised personnel. Observing and
capturing the crime scene is an important element of the investigation. This aids officers and
witnesses in recalling important information and facts about the crime scene once it has been
located. Observing and recording the scene is crucial in the forensic investigation like it allows the
authorised personnel to identify the dangers and how to avoid them before commencing the
investigation.

Documenting and recovering trace materials: The crime scene was recorded, and the potential
evidence was recorded in a cordon log. The notes were used to record the potential evidence this
includes writing date, time, description of the location, weather, and environmental condition,
description of the scene and location of the evidence relative to other key points. Photographs was
taken by the authorised personnel where everything was photographed before moving the potential
evidence. The photographs were performed by taking the photos of the crime scene and the
surroundings, photograph entrance, which was the door, overview photos where four different
images taken from each side of the crime scene and close up photos were taken to capture the
potential evidence, a scale was used to reinforce the details of the potential evidence this is to show
the actual size of the potential evidence.

A rough sketch was performed by the members of the authorised personnel this includes sketching
date, time, location of the crime scene, scale, accurate distance measurements of objects from two
adjacent walls, the description of the items from the crime scene, a compass was drawn which was
