1.1.1) A person can make their own decisions and are free to decide how they want to live
their lives as long as their decisions don’t affect the lives of others negatively. They
also have the right to make their own choices and have freedom of thought.
1.1.2) Justice means being fair. People have the right to fair treatment and to have that there
should be justice for everyone. The rights of one person or group are balanced against
one another. There should always be equality, impartiality and reciprocity. You
should treat others the way you want to be treated.
1.1.3) Confidentiality means that when someone tells you something personal, you will not
share their personal information with anyone. If you share something with you in
confidentiality you may not share that information. Sometimes you are compelled by
law to reveal information that has been discussed.
1.2) A trusting relationship with the learner can be described as a meaningful link
between the learner’s world and the educator’s world. The teacher counsellor needs to
be non-condemning, non-judgemental and non-affirmative. If the educator becomes
condemning or judgemental, the learner will try as much as possible to fit in with the
educator’s perception in order to feel accepted and recognized. The educator should
help learners to stay with their own attitudes, values and beliefs.
Educators shouldn’t influence learners to adopt their attitudes, values and beliefs.
Educators should always be genuine; they should assure learners that they can tell them
anything in confidentiality. The educator’s body language is very important and they
should always use attending skills.
