Adjectives and adverbs
Adjective = bijvoeglijk naamwoord, zegt iets over het zelfstandig naamwoord = noun, pronouns
(persoonlijk voornaamwoord) , someone , something
Een adjective komt voor het zelfstandig naamwoord ;
He is an amazing cook. We made slow progress
Can also come after verbs that describe someone / something.
Ex: Our progress was / seemed / felt slow.
Ex: His food tastes / smells / looks amazing.
-ing adjectives describe the person or object
Ex: He is an interesting person.
Ex: His stories are interesting.

What kind? Fast rider / crowded streets / sunny afternoon.
Which one / ones? First lap / inner lanes / final race.
How many? Five teams / many fans / more popcorn
Adverb = bijwoord, zegt iets over het werkwoord, bijvoeglijk naamwoord over een ander werkwoord.
A verb (action Ex: We progressed slowly. (slowly describes progress)
An adjective Ex: He is an incredibly amazing cook (describes amazing, the adjective)
Another adverb: Ex: He cooks really amazingly. (describes another adverb)
Even a whole phrase: Ex: Interestingly, he comes from Siberia. (describes the entire phrase)
Adverbs geven antwoord op 4 vragen : who / when / where / to what
1. How: patiently / loudly / carefully
2. When: sometimes / daily / always
3. Where: inside / there / everywhere
4. To what extent / degree: extremely / nearly / almost
To change an adjective into an adverb, we usually add -LY to it. Slow -> slowly. Interesting ->
interestingly. If adjective ends in Y, change to “i” before adding –LY. Happy -> happily. Lucky -> luckily
Uitzonderingen:
Good -> well hard -> hard fine -> fine
Fast -> fast early -> early straight -> straight
Late -> late far -> far Short -> short
These words are BOTH adjectives and adverbs:
Weekly, monthly, daily, weekly.
Ex: It’s a weekly magazine & I receive it weekly.
Ex: I enjoy my daily jog & I jog daily
