Introduction
In this assignment, I’ll be assessing the performance of my client, Jamie Lawson, and will be selecting
three main areas of performance to analyse. I will be analysing my client’s cardiovascular fitness,
agility and arousal. I will also be making a comparison against normative data.
Cardiovascular Endurance
Jamie Lawson, my client, plays football at a semi-professional standard. Jamie Lawson is a central
midfielder and therefore is the engine of the whole team. When playing, cardiovascular fitness is
one of the biggest components that Jamie needs in order to perform well in football. Centre
midfielders need to be able to run from box to box, winning the ball and starting attacks for their
team without getting fatigued. If they get fatigued whilst doing this they could get over run and
possibly concede a goal. For me to give an opinion of how good my clients cardiovascular fitness is,
they will participate in a 12 minute cooper run to see their strengths and areas they must improve in
their cardiovascular fitness. The intensity of this training will be a moderate pace and they will be
working between 70-80% of their maximum heart rate. The athlete will be running around a 395.25
metre length AstroTurf Pitch.

Normative Data
With the athletes’ results, Jamie Lawson ran 5 laps around the marked area, with the total distance
coming to 2010 metres. Jamie’s result against the normative data shows that the athletes’
cardiovascular endurance is a good score as
it falls in the above average category and
result shows for a 17-20 year old, this is
extremely good. For my client to have been
put in the excellent category he must have
only ran 290 metres more to have been
scored against the excellent category.
Agility
Also, as Jamie is a centre midfielder he needs to be able to get out of tight spaces and be able to turn
fast to block the opposition or counter and attack. To assess my client’s agility, Jamie participated in
the Illinois agility test so I could see what he scored and point out any strengths or areas for
improvement. The agility tests makes Jamie run around a 10m2 square with cones scattered about,
so they must weave in and out the cones at speed. My athlete will be taking the test three times, he
will be doing it three times to get accurate results and make the data more reliable.
