4 Stages
1. Sensorimotor stage (0-2 years)
reflex reactions to goal directed actions
learning: look, touch, suck
imitation, memory and thought used
basic cause and effect understanding (elicit and recieve response from care giver)
Symbolic representation: internal depiction of objects/events
Object permanence → 9 months
Deffered imitation: mental representation of past event and imitate → end of stage
