Lecture 1 (introduction)
Lifestyle: “the distinctive pattern of personal and social behaviour characteristic of an individual or
group.
Consumption:
Lecture 2 (Consumption, lifestyles and taste)
,Social stratification: Categorization of its people into rankings basedon factors such as wealth,
income, ethnicity, education, power
- Closed stratification system: caste system
o No influence on social position (you remain in the class that you are born in)
- Open stratification system: class system
o Class = set of people who share similar status (in wealth, income, education,
occupation)
o Based on personal achievement and social factors
, Socio-economic position: placement of persons, families, households and census tracts or other
aggregates with respect to the capacity to create or consume goods that are valued in our society
Compositional: person-, family-, household based
Contextual: area-based

- Physical access in food environments:
o lack of access to healthy foods, but also easy access to unhealthy foods
