D253 Task 1: BECOMING AN EFFECTIVE VALUES-BASED LEADER 1) Being creative is my signature strength as I genuinely enjoy being creative in my thinking and the work I do. Creativity helps me to make tasks look appealing and straightforward to the end-users. Being creative and innovative are two essential skills that can help us understand the pain points and simplify the tedious process. Recently while working in a group, we had to come up with ideas to change a business process that has been around for over 15 years. During the brainstorming sessions, I suggested that rather than just automating the existing process, we should break it down into subgroups and check which of the scenarios are frequently occurring and then get to the root cause of all commonly occurring scenarios. The team agreed, and with the new process, we are now able to identify at any given time, what are the top three scenarios that cause vendor payment delays and reduce 80% of the delays in vendor payments. This has helped us to improve vendor relations significantly. 1a) As a Customer Service Manager providing timely solutions to our teams and customers is essential. Value-based leadership brings intrinsic and extrinsic value to both internal and external customers. Employees feel motivated to work alongside creative managers who can roll up their sleeves and work to find solutions and resolve issues quickly. The solution can sometimes be as simple as "out of the box" thinking. As a value-based leader, I will always be honest with my employees when I am unsure of solutions and need to engage other teams to find solutions. It is important to let my team express their point of view first and come up with solutions whenever possible; this will make the team feel empowered and respected. The team should feel that they helped provide creative solutions, allowing for greater collaboration and synergy amongst the team. 1) Experience in which being stronger in one of your five lesser strengths (i.e., the last five) from the survey results could have positively influenced the outcome. 2 2a. As a customer service manager, I am aware that the needs of our customers change regularly. Improving on my lesser desired strength ie bravery, will help me make some decisions that will help me accelerate my value-based leadership abilities in my current role and help me grow as a person. Leaders are challenged to take the right action during trying times. Bravery helps us face challenges when we are battling with the fear of the consequences of our actions. Bravery helps us to look beyond fear and do what is necessary. Value-based leadership does not guarantee having the correct answers at all times; however, it teaches us that as we take action based on our values and what matters most to our team and organization, the path will become more evident. It is essential to lead the team with bravery and always do the right thing regardless of the circumstances of our actions taken during challenging situations. a.
