Nutritional Principles in Nursing: Live Classroom Assignment 1. What types of resources are available to communities in terms of learning about nutrition and healthy eating? There are some community-based programs that focus on educating people on health and nutrition. These are often led by volunteers that make sure households have access to nutrition intervention and to treatment of illnesses (Mason, Sanders, Musgrove, Soekirman, and Galloway 2006). Interventions include “health promotion, primary prevention, and secondary prevention” (Promoting Healthy and Physical Activity for a Healthier Nation, 2010). More specifically, The goal of health promotion is to help people establish an active lifestyle and healthy eating habits early in life and to maintain these behaviors throughout their lives. The goal of primary prevention is to help people who have risk factors for chronic disease (e.g., elevated blood pressure or serum cholesterol levels) prevent or postpone the onset of disease by establishing more active lifestyles and healthier eating habits.
