As an English Home Language educator the learners in my class are mostly on
second additional level. Most of the learners speak an African Language as their
home language and the only exposure to English is at school. Many of the learners
are able to use English as an effective means to communication in terms of listening,
reading and writing.
The school environment is effective as it promotes learning and teaching to enhance
the learner ’s full potential. All resources are supplied by the school as our school
believes learners and teachers should have no shortage when it comes to academic
enhancement.
I have selected this article as my prose text because this is a reality most children’s
lives throughout the country face on a daily basis. Most of my learners come from a
low-to middle socioeconomic background, personal experiences on whichever level
is spoken about on a daily basis as learners express themselves readily. Therefor
they will be able to listen since they can relate to the subjects discussed and will
read and participate with interest and understanding in discussions afterward.
Through I will also be given opportunity to teach the four language skills, namely
listening, reading writing and speaking. Learners will be given the opportunity and be
even more engaged during activities since they will realize that there is no exclusion
of individuals in authority – which is the teacher-regarding the disruption caused by
mobile phones. They will realize that their shortcomings of mobile phone disruption
in the classroom is equal to that of the teacher’s.
