parliament and functioning of the EU parliament.
Who is in the Parliament?
● Number of members is 751 members - This is the max number
● Elected for 5 years ( Parliament selected every 5 years)
● Highlights the supranational character of the parliament ( general interests of EU citizens)
Minimum number is 6 members for each nation ( max number is 96)
Council of Ministers - the minister of members.
European court of Human rights - Court based in strasbourg, juridical body of Europe (1999 they
ruled that uk violated citizens rights - related to Gibraltar, could not vote) Following this Uk
organised elections in Gibraltar. Integrated the district with Wales.
Age of Voting Rights can vote for European Parliament votes, Every citizen can vote in another member
state.
Polticical Groups - The conference of Presidents = President of Parliament + The chairs of the political
groups( need to come from at least 7 member state formally_) ( 7 political party groups divided among
751 individuals.
Europeans peoples party biggest party in European Parliament.
Committee in Brussels writes the proposals that then goes to planery in Strasbourg.

Article 4 - General List of Policy areas of the shared competences the EU has - Eg. Social Policy, Internal
market, Economic, Social and Territorial Cohesion, Agricultural.
When immigration problems happens? Issues of Pink cards need to be given, for example Greece and
Bulgaria experiencing a sudden surge in people crossing the border from Turkey - Pink cards are given.
The EU can legislate on particular areas - 78 TFEU ( Special legislative procedure for urgent measures).
