English 5 – Final assignment
Task 1: Short text
Communicating online and not in one’s own native language can be difficult. Especially when one is
not familiar with someone, it can be hard to understand and interpret the other person. This mostly
happens with different cultures. People from Thailand are less familiar with western cultural values
as other Asian countries. They might take offense when something is not meant to be insulting.
Moreover, people find it hard to get a clear message across when not speaking in their own tongue.
They find it time consuming and often switch back to their native language which can be frustrating
for others.
Task 2: E-mail response

Re: Meeting at online conference
Dear Ms. Cheng,
Many thanks for sending me an e-mail. It was lovely virtually talking with you too. My family and I
are having a great time and hope you shall as well in Sichuan Province!
Our CEO would be glad to have a meeting to discuss the future. She is available to have a Zoom
meeting this week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday between 9:00-12:00.
I am excited to discuss the possibilities for the next Tourism Association event and hope we shall be
working together more closely in the future. It is good to hear that Four Rivers Tours is just as
excited as VTB to establish a good relationship. My best wishes to your family!
Kind regards,
Rosalind Russell
