personal statement is a BIG deal, and so it’s crucial that it is exceptional when you submit it! You’re
essentially advertising yourself as the ideal candidate for the course you wish to join! Universities
want to know why you think you would be a successful student here and what skills you have that
would enable you to progress smoothly on the course. It’s also important that you write
professionally too, sort of as if you already know what you’re talking about in relation to the subject.
When writing your personal statement, it can be really tricky to decide which parts are worth
keeping and which parts are worth scrapping. In this guide, I’ll share my top tips to help with this!
Remember, you only get 47 lines!

Here is my OWN personal statement example, which was praised by many
teachers and used throughout the school as a model/example personal
statement to assist others in writing their own.
Biomedical science is forever advancing and plays a crucial role in the research of
both non-infectious and infectious disease, in the efforts to find cures for them.
Though I am keen to learn about the human body, the mechanisms of the human
body and disease, one of my main attractions to this degree is the variety of topics
within the subject from diseases to laboratory skills and the fundamentals of both
biology and biological chemistry. This variety will enable me to enhance my
understanding of science as a whole.
Throughout my Level 3 Extended Diploma in Medical Science, there were three units
which interested me most. These were Infectious and Non-Infectious Disease,
Fundamentals of Biology and Physiology of Human Body Systems. One assignment
which I enjoyed thoroughly was on disease. This assignment provided me with nine
categories, and I had to produce a report on a disease from each of these categories
- analysing the causes, risk factors, symptoms, and treatments for each disease in
depth. This assignment opened my eyes to how much I actually enjoy researching
and learning. My love for researching only excites me for the research
