INFECTIONS AND IMMUNITY:
IMMUNE RESPONSE BY PLANTS:
plant pathogens affect the growth and reproduction of the plant.
Plants have an innate immune system to defend themselves.
INNATE IMMUNE SYSTEM:
1. Produce salicylic acid (SA) which is a plant hormone or signal.
2. Activate resistance genes which provided resistance to the particular pathogen
and the viral replication is stopped.
3. Self-destruct and form an area of dead cells to stop pathogen from spreading.
4. Salicylic acid moves from site of infection through the phloem to uninfected
parts to activate the immune system. This is called systemic acquired
resistance.
