Teacher: First of all, we'd like to know a little bit about you, so Rebecca, where are you from in Eng -
land?
Rebecca: I'm from Nottingham in the East Midlands.
Teacher: And where are you from Amanda?
Amanda: I'm originally from Bath near Bristol.
Teacher: And have you studied any foreign languages, Amanda?
Amanda: For a while I studied Spanish, but I found it very difficult and gave up.
Teacher: Rebecca?
Rebecca: I did French and German at school and then I learned a little bit of Italian when I went to work
in Italy so for a couple of weeks, we had a crash course in Italian that's about it.
Teacher: Now I'd like you to ask each other something about your interests and leisure activities so
ask each other questions. Rebecca, could you start please?
Rebecca: Do you have any hobbies, Amanda?
Amanda: My hobbies are going to the theatre and going to the pictures, I know it's not much of a
hobby, but I don't really have a lot of time for hobbies.
Rebecca: What are your favourite films, what kind of films did you like best?
Amanda: Yeah, I like thrillers, suspense, that's my favourite.
Rebecca: I don’t like those, I’m no good with those, I get too scared. I don't watch any of it because I
have my hands over my eyes.
Amanda: So, what are your favourite hobbies, Rebecca?
Rebecca: I wanted to take up self-defence, I'm starting new hobbies because I haven't really got any at
the moment apart from reading and music, but I'm going to take up self-defence and dancing classes,
something like that. I've done a sort of Middle Eastern dancing, it's like an Egyptian belly dancing but
it's not Egyptian, it's a kind of country form when your hips actually go down instead of upwards, and
you're dressed in lots of clothes, you're not showing any stomach or anything so yeah, I did that for a
little while, but I get fed up with things really, get bored and move on. I did yoga and that annoyed me, it
used to make me anxious.
Amanda: Is it, yoga made you anxious?
Rebecca: Yeah, because you have to go and relax all your body and then you go right from your toes up
your body and then you go down it and relax again, and you just think oh my God, I've got to relax all
over again and it made me anxious.
Teacher: Right, ask each other about things you hope to achieve in the future. Rebecca what would you
like to achieve in the future?
Rebecca: I want to be rich. I've got a little dream, and this won't be until I'm 60, and I don't know what
I'm going to do until I'm 60, but when I'm 60 I'm going to have a donkey sanctuary.
Amanda: She wants to be Brigitte Bardot.
Rebecca: I'm going to live on a Greek island and wear the same dress and the same straw hat every
day and wander around on the craggy stones in the heat and under the olive trees with my donkeys and
my goats.
Amanda: Sounds lovely I really fancy that.
Rebecca: What about you?
Amanda: I want happy, I want… I don't know really, I think I just want to be happy more than anything
else, I mean ideally, I'd like to carry on with further studies. I wouldn't mind doing my PhD. I'd like to do
that, but I just haven't got time. But I will, I'll be wacky old lady in jeans and blue hair and do my PhD at
