Overview
This paper applies Lingenfelter’s book, “Leading Cross-Culturally: Covenant
Relationships for Effective Christian Leadership context to my ministry as Hospital Chaplain at
Barnes Jewish Hospital (BJH) in St. Louis which is a multi-cultural community. Cultural
intelligence (CQ) signifies a person’s ability to operate effectively across cultures. Hence CQ
aids leaders create a general viewpoint and repertoire that outcome in effective leadership.
Lingenfelter’s book concentrates on methods to create applicable leadership of Christian leaders
in multi-cultural settings. The book's purpose is to share God's word and God's Kingdom vision
to the western and non-western leaders who are preparing to work and lead individuals in a
multi-cultural setting. Lingenfelter describes cross-cultural leadership as “leading cross-
culturally and inspiring individuals who originate from two or more cultural backgrounds. To
engage with you as the leadership team in creating a community of trust and then follow you and
get empowered by you, I attaining a convincing vision of faith'' (21). After this definition,
Lingenfelter explains the book's description to focus on creating communities of empowerment,
belief, and vision using leadership pegged on biblical values. This definition is the frame on
