To introduce the first conditional for the function of talking about
events that may happen in the future or is likely to happen. To help
them understand that the first conditional is a way to connect tow
separate yet related events.
Lesson Type: Grammar Lesson Aims:
Students learn how to use the first conditional and become familiar
with its different uses like making promises, offers and warnings.
To contrast the use of future simple and present simple in sentences
such as 'We'll go to the beach together if Dad gets off from work.'
Students will understand the form and function of the first conditional
through the presentation in the warmer stage.
To identify structures of the first conditional in English and to recognize key

Level of Class: pre-intermediate) Lesson Objectives:
Teenagers (14-16 years old) Students will practise producing form accurately through controlled
practice activities.
Students will practise producing the form communicatively through freer
practice activities.

simple for common verbs, and would is familiar with ‘will’ for future
events.
Nationality/First
Chinese Assumed Knowledge: They are familiar with grammatical terminology, such as the names of

Problem: Students might be tempted to change into speaking in their
native language when they come across any struggles or problems.
Solution: I will redirect the students back to English and help them
with the problem or difficulty.
Problem: The students may find the class to be boring and there
might be a difficulty in upholding their attention.
Solution: I will make the class interactive and use examples and
materials that students can relate to.
Length of Lesson: 60 mins Anticipated Problems :
Problem: They might find it difficult to separate when to use the first
and when to use the other conditionals.
Solution: I will explain that the difference is about probability.
Problem: They might not hear the contraction between subject and
auxiliary verbs – e.g. she’ll
Solution: I will provide them with different examples and ask them to
listen and repeat.
