How to Use This Revision Guide?

Structure of Paragraphs:
Outline, (Application- if necessary), Evaluation
Outline- Bullet-pointed outline of key research, that focuses on key
information
Evaluation:
Limitation- Criticisms of the Research
Strength- Support (generally research support) that supports the findings
Discussion Point- Not a Strength or Limitation- discusses the research-
still counts as A03
Memorise- This EASY TO USE guide has laid out your essays already,

Outline research fully with key points, application should include
psychological knowledge that applies to scenario, Evaluation- 3 PEL’s
for 16 marker with application, 4 PEL’s with 16 marker with no
application, 2 PEL’s for 8 markers.
PEL structure should always be used: e.g.

Active Recall!! Don’t just read the notes, read them and memorise- do
this by reading over again and writing it out from memory OR memorise
specific key words in the outline/evaluation to help build cues to trigger
your memory.

Social Influence:
CONFORMITY
Types and Explanations
Internalisation: the person changes their views/behaviour publicly (when group is present), and
privately (when group isn’t present). This also leads to a permanent change because attitudes
have become internalised.
Compliance: ‘going along with others’ changing their views publicly, whilst maintaining their
private views. This is only a temporary change in behaviour and stops when group pressure
stops.
Identification: the group is important to the individual; they value the group. They will publicly
change their view to achieve this goal, even if they don’t privately agree with everything the
group stands for.
Explanations for conformity- Outline:
Deutsch and Gerard developed a two-process theory. Two main reasons why people
conform:
• ISI (the need to be right)
• NSI (the need to be liked)
Informational Social Influence:
• If the majority agrees on one answer, the individual will accept the answer because they feel
the majority is more likely to be right.
• Cognitive process
• Most likely to happen in situations that are new to a person where they are unsure,
decisions must be made quickly, when one person is regarded as the expert of the group.
Normative Social Influence:
• NSI is when people conform because they want to gain social approval, be accepted and be
liked.
• NSI leads to compliance.
• Emotional process
• More likely to occur amongst our friends as we are concerned about their social approval.
