1. I’m choosing Mathematics (intermediate phase), for my subject. The Curriculum and
assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) supplies information for each specific subject in
schools, which explains the aims, definition, skill and content of the subject. The guide
provides important information about how assessments of the subject must be done
and information that the teacher must keep in mind and follow. Guidelines for the
teachers about each term and grades are given and time allocation for the subject is also
included.
2. Summary of the South African Curriculum:
• This curriculum aims to make sure that children use the knowledge and skills
that they have learned in meaningful ways within their own life and future.
The curriculum promotes knowledge in local contexts, while being sensitive
to global imperatives.
• Equipping any learner, no matter what situation they are in, it serves the
purpose of providing learners access to higher education. Making sure when
learners leave school, they can interoperate their knowledge and skills into
their workplace as free citizens.
• It is based on active and critical learning, progression, high knowledge and -
skills, social transformation, human rights, valuing indigenous knowledge
systems, credibility, quality and efficiency.
• Aims to produce learners who can identify and solve problems, learners
making the right decisions, learners who can work effectively in a team and
as their own. Learners who can organise and manage themselves responsibly,
communicate effectively, also using science and technology effective and
responsibly towards others and the environment.
• Providing the clear understanding of diversity and inclusivity not just in
schools but overall.
