Part 1: Answer each of these questions in a paragraph with at least five sentences: Include
the question and number your responses accordingly. Provide a citation for each answer.
1. Should society help workers dislocated when technology, like the Internet, eliminates
their jobs in a process called 'Creative Destruction?
Optimistically thinking, society should help workers whose jobs have been eliminated by creative
destruction. They should be helped by educating them on new technology that could lead to them
getting new employment opportunities. Although new technology may eliminate jobs offered by
older technology, it comes with other employment opportunities, and encouraging people to learn
new skills may help them acquire new sources of livelihood. With the new software, positions in
data entry, software development, or marketing may be created. Encouraging people to accept and
learn new technology could help them rather than being pessimistic about technological
advancements. Just as Montealegre and Cascio (2017) posit, humans should continue doing what
they do better than machines.
2. Are we working more and earning less?
No, we are not working more and earning less. With the increased adoption of modern technology,
it would be fair to say that we are working smart and earning what we deserve. Most people in the
modern-day world are earning according to their talents or professional qualifications. Highly
talented, qualified, or people who work for longer hours earn more. With modern technology, work
has been minimized, and human input has been limited to controlling machines. It would therefore
be pessimistic to say that we are working more and earning less. According to Montealegre and
Cascio (2017), as robots and machines continue to get integrated into the workspace, the workload
has reduced. Therefore, we are not working more.
