Missing persons requests that require an officer to respond to the scene and fit the following criteria,
will be dispatched as a missing person (Signal 8, Priority 2): - Answers 1. Victim is 12 years of age or
younger;
2. From a dependency facility and foul play is suspected;
3. Mentally/physically challenged; and
4. Senile, elderly or the possibility of foul play is suspected, regardless of age.

no serious medical condition, not mentally or physically challenged, and no unusual circumstances will

When dispatched to a missing person call where the circumstances warrant an immediate search, the
officer will: - Answers 1. Proceed to the scene as quickly as possible, Priority 2, without utilizing
emergency equipment and obeying all traffic laws; and
2. Not swap calls, or request that the call be stacked without the approval of a Patrol Supervisor. The
Patrol Supervisor will not allow a call to be swapped or stacked if doing so will result in a delayed
response.
An immediate search for a missing person(s) is warranted under any of the following circumstances: -
Answers 1. The missing person is less than 18 years of age;
2. The missing person is mentally incompetent (including dementia and/or Alzheimer's disease, senile,
or elderly person);
3. The possibility of foul play is suspected regardless of age;
4. The victim is missing from a dependency facility and foul play is suspected;
5. The missing person has a serious medical problem/condition; or
6. Any other unusual circumstances exist regardless of age.
Initial searches should include: - Answers 1. The victim's residence (including beds, closets, garages,
attics, outbuildings, etc.);
2. Adjacent residences and/or structures (including those that are not occupied);
3. Interviews with neighbors and friends;
, 4. Locations of previous recoveries, if a prior history exists;
5. Retention ponds, drainage systems, ditch lines, lakes or other bodies of water; and
6. Wooded areas, brush or other overgrown areas
When initial searches are exhausted and a more extensive search is to be conducted for missing

If the initial search is not successful in locating the victim, Patrol Supervisors should consider calling out
police canine and bloodhound canine units, helicopters,
