Assignment 2- Nursing Informatics
Introduction
Nursing Informatics (NI) is a speciality integrating nursing science, information science,
and analytical science. These components are part of the concepts in identifying, defining,
managing, and communicating data or information, knowledge, and wisdom in the practice of
nursing. This profession allows for computerized nursing services with the integration of
technological advances such as electronic medical records. NI is a crucial healthcare integration
that has been used in the clinical setting to improve the utilization of digital infrastructure and
deliver virtual knowledge. These were essential factors during the first years of COVID-19. This
paper will analyze how the NI was utilized to respond to corona virus pandemic, its
implementation difficulties. Recommendations to improve future application and managerial
approaches for NI promotion and enactment will also be elucidated.
Nursing Informatics in COVID-19 Pandemic Response
COVID-19 implications, such as lockdown and the need to maintain social distancing,
brought NI into the centre, underscoring the need to utilize such systems to promote health and
wellness in the working populations and patients. NI became the most invaluable resource during
the pandemic, generating insights and actionable data for prevention and treatment. Telehealth,
remote patient monitoring, and AI-based service delivery are among the elements that were
prioritized during the pandemic. The primary application of nursing informatics during the
pandemic is telehealth. Nursing utilizes this aspect to the advantage of their patients, delivering
healthcare services to individuals without reach (Wu, 2021). The lockdown limited access to
essential resources such as health care, whereby consultations or visits to the healthcare facilities
were limited to critical cases. This necessitated the use of telehealth practices to deliver services
