IOP3701 INDUSTRIAL PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING AND ASSESSMENT
ASSESSMENT: 4
QUESTION 1.
Dynamic assessment focuses on the learning responsiveness and capability of an
individual. It does not measure previously learned information but rather the ability to
understand, use, and apply the knowledge again (Grigorenko & Sternberg, 1998, p76).
Unlike Dynamic assessments that assess an individual's learning capability while
receiving support and feedback, traditional assessment methods focus on evaluating
the skills or knowledge an individual has mastered at that moment.
Looking at 21-year-old Sam`s case, dynamic assessment can help to identify why is
feeling overwhelmed and anxious when it comes to his third-year studies and what he
needs to help him through the year. We can determine whether he needs another
method of learning or problem-solving. There is also a possibility that I could even
evaluate his cognitive performance, and he would benefit from a tutor to help him
understand the study material better.
QUESTION 2.
Even though life goes through ups and downs, positive psychology focuses on positive
emotions and the things that make us want to live life to the fullest. Applying positive
psychology where the primary focus is on well-being, upliftment, and building
hopefulness, would be beneficial to Sam because he is experiencing low motivation
and is feeling overwhelmed. Sam`s current focus and feelings are more negative, and a
positive switch would help him not feel so distressed but rather motivate him to find a
solution.
The Positive Affect Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) is a psychometric scale that
measures the positive and negative emotional effects on an individual's well-being.
Using PANAS as a measure when assessing Sam`s current state can determine how he
feels about certain things, for instance, his interest in his current study field, the
different modules, his emotions when taking tests in previous semesters compared to
this semester, etc using a 5-point scale. Identifying his strong skills and competencies
the confidence in Sam`s ability to continue his studies would be highlighted.
