Question 1: Personal Experience with Psychological Assessment Measures
During my final undergraduate year, I participated in a university-based research project
that involved completing a psychological well-being questionnaire. The tool assessed
dimensions such as emotional resilience, life satisfaction, and social support. While the
process seemed scientifically structured, I noticed how certain questions felt distant
from my cultural experiences. This exposed a possible flaw in the universal application
of psychometric tools—namely, the implicit assumption that psychological constructs
and experiences are equally valid across diverse populations.
This experience revealed a key tension: while assessment tools aim for standardisation
and objectivity, they may unintentionally ignore cultural context and lived reality. This
has ethical and interpretive implications. Standardised tools risk marginalising non-
dominant cultural narratives, which could affect the validity of results for individuals from
different backgrounds. Thus, psychological assessments should not only meet
psychometric standards but also be evaluated for contextual relevance and fairness. My
experience highlighted the importance of both scientific rigour and cultural sensitivity in
psychological practice.
