In Mike van Graan's play Bafana Republic, satire is used to show the flaws in South African
society, especially in how the country prepared for the 2010 World Cup. Satire uses humor,
exaggeration, and irony to make people think about the mistakes or problems in society. In
this play, Van Graan uses comic sketches to poke fun at how the government and other
powerful groups acted during the World Cup preparations. While some ordinary characters
